A New Year, A New Decade, A New Haiti

Dear Friends and Family,

Greetings from sunny Haiti! My family and I would like to take this time to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We are living in exciting times! As the financial crisis which has engulfed the United States continues to affect lives around the globe, we Haitians remain poorer than ever. Yet, God has not abandoned our country. Though economically poor, we Haitians are happier than ever and as a country we are learning to rely on Him who has promised to never abandon us.

Paul writes in Galatians 4:4 that when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son to bridge the gap between God and man. In this Christmas Season as we usher in a New Year and a New Decade, we remember this greatest of sacrifices - the gift of Jesus. I believe that just as God sent His Son to deliver mankind from its sins, God has also prepared a new plan and a new vision to save Haiti.

As I crisscrossed the globe this past year, traveling throughout Haitian communities in Europe, the United States, Canada, the French Antilles as well as throughout Haiti, I could not help but experience a sense of hope at the resilience and resolve of the Haitian people. Though struck down and persecuted, we Haitians know that God has not given up on us.

In this season, I cannot help but recall the events surrounding the birth of Christ. It was a time of great distress. While shepherds and angels sang the praises of the Messiah, the Book of Revelations describes a cosmic battle, which pitted demons against the most Holy One. Here on earth mothers lost their babies as King Herod sought to preserve his power on earth by ordering the massacre of all male newborns. Despite all the turmoil, God who had not spoken to His people for over 400 years, was about to change the course of human history forever through the person of Jesus Christ.

I believe that in this time of turmoil in Haiti, the Savior of humanity is ready and willing to change the course of Haiti’s history forever. Just as God sent His Son in the fullness of time, I believe that the time is now ripe for change to come to Haiti. Throughout its 205 year history, Haiti has known nothing but violence and bloodshed. I remain convinced that God is about to change the course of Haitian history.

In these past few months a group of committed individuals – pastors, community workers and other Christians – have come together to form an unprecedented coalition of Christian political parties. I am praying that the Haitian church, once divided and ambivalent, will rally behind this new and nascent coalition. Christians represent 42% of the Haitian population. As such, I believe that we Haitian Christians have a unique opportunity to usher in a new government in Haiti – one that remains firmly grounded in Biblical principles, one that is open to trade, and one that is committed to a transparent and corruption free country.

Friends we need your help. Above all we need your prayers to make this dream of a new Haiti a reality. We also need your financial support as we go into a new election year. Without you this dream will remain just that – a dream. However, with your support we will prevail!

God has a plan for Haiti. You can play a historic part of the fulfillment of His plan through your prayers, financial support, political activity and vote on election day! We look forward to your continued support in this New Year. Once again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I remain yours,
